Former English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has been sentenced to 18 months in jail in the UK. The charges are related to contempt of court laws. Robinson has been found guilty of filming defendants in a criminal trial and broadcasting the footage on social media, actions which have the potential to derail the trial process.
Robinson, who has developed a substantial following online for his far-right views, has defended his actions as part of what he describes as his fight against ‘grooming gangs’. However, judges ruled that his conduct amounted to ‘serious interference with the administration of justice’. Robinson has previously served prison sentences for assault, fraud, and other contempt of court charges.
