At least 13 workers have died and 38 have been injured in an explosion at a nickel processing factory in Indonesia’s West Sulawesi province.
The blast occurred on Monday morning at the PT Anugerah Unggul Abadi facility at Maranomou Village in Mamuju district, in the province’s Tawaeli regency.
Local police Chief Putu Agus Arnawa said the injured were being treated at a nearby hospital.
The cause of the blast is still being investigated, but it is believed that the explosion was caused by a furnace furnace failure at the factory.
It is not clear if any of the workers were in the vicinity of the furnace when it exploded.
The factory is owned by PT Indonesia Persari, one of the largest nickel processing firms in the country.
