Edward Snowden, former National Security Agency contractor and infamous whistleblower, has recently asked President Biden not to renew the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which allows for surveillance on foreign powers. This comes after a Senate vote in favor of renewing the controversial act. Snowden, who revealed the large scale of NSA’s surveillance operations back in 2013, believes that the FISA infringes on privacy rights and personal freedom. However, it’s unclear whether Biden will take his suggestions into account, given the fact that many believe such surveillance acts are necessary for national security.
